Around the Schools – December 13, 2010

The holiday spirit thrives at École Heather Park Elementary’ as (to date) staff and students have generously donated 1000+ non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army’s Food Bank. Organised by our Leadership students, this total will undoubtedly grow, as there is a lunchtime Sock Hop planned for Wednesday, and the price of admission is one canned good.
Our PAC plans to host a Christmas Celebration on December 16th—from 6:30-8:30 pm.  They have planned an evening of fun, festivities, food (desserts and appies), music and activities for the kids.  They will also be collecting a non-perishable food item to ‘pay it forward.’
Our hallways are filled with the sounds and sights of Christmas: on Dec. 14th Huble Farm will present ‘A Pioneer Christmas’ to several classes; some classroom teachers have organised their students into family groupings for Christmas themed stations on Dec. 16th; watch your trees for Dog Bone Reindeer ornaments and paper Candy canes too!
In keeping with a Heather Park library tradition, Mrs. Weisgarber, our teacher-librarian, will be treating our intermediate classes to a week-long Christmas boot camp. ‘Reindeer Games’ is a fun style of Christmas trivia, relays and other team challenges.
WOW! 1, 208 candy canes were sold over three days by our Leadership students and will be delivered mid-week. Any monies raised will go toward funding additional projects in the New Year.
On the last day of school Santa will visit, our fledgling band students will perform a mini-concert and there will be an afternoon sing-a-long.
Thanks.
