On Monday, École Heather Park Elementary School bid adieu to four Korean students that attended our school for the last two months. To give them a truly ‘Canadian’ send-off, Mr. Franz, his class and several parent helpers organized special activities such as watching a DVD on Canadian wildlife, playing pioneer-style games and listening to local music. Special foods prepared throughout the day included a pancake breakfast with real maple syrup and berries, friendship buns, fruit tarts, smoked salmon, elk burgers and elk stew.
To raise money for Spring fieldtrips to Fort St. James and Barkerville, grade four and five students in Mme. Lane’s and Mr. Frost’s classes will be hosting cupcake sales. The first one was a roaring success with so many creative designs, crazy colours and yummy candies on top!
Our second Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the library from Tuesday, March 1 to Thursday, March 3. First chance to buy items is Tuesday evening between 6-8 pm. All proceeds from this will support library programs in the school. As the month long ÉHPES Reading Challenge wrapped up just last week, the Book Fair is also a wonderful way to continue to celebrate and encourage a love of reading!
Congratulations to both Amy G. and Mitch S who did Heather Park proud at the recent Prince George Citizen Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday. They placed in the top 9 out of 39 spellers; Amy 9th and Mitch making it to the “Super Seven”—placing 7th.
