Around the Schools, week of June 6th

Congratulations to Mme. Dougherty and all the students and staff at École Heather Park Elementary School who participated in our recent ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ fundraiser. It was an overwhelming success, with the final total of monies raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation coming in at a whopping $9313.26!!

Last week many grade 4 students from several different classrooms enjoyed a trip to Ft. St. James Historic Site for a full day of hands on learning about the fur trade. Their grade five classmates enjoyed going to Barkerville for a fun filled day of gold-panning and other learning activities around BC’s gold rush.

Recently several classes visited the canoe launch site at Cottonwood Island Park to listen to a fisheries presenter and release their salmon fry into the Nechako River.

On June 9th all grade 7 students and their families are invited to the 3rd annual ‘Flight of the 7th Grader’ hosted by KRSS between 4-6 pm. This transition activity includes a BBQ dinner and a scavenger hunt through the school. Students will meet KRSS staff and support workers, learn the different areas of the school and have all their grade 8 questions answered. This BBQ follows a special ‘Gym Riot’ held at KRSS. This ice-breaker included a variety of fun challenges and ended with a pizza lunch!

An enthusiastic handful of students and staff from the yearbook club had a day-long blitz to put the finishing touches on the inaugural Heather Park yearbook as it goes off to the printer mid-week for publishing. $10.00 will buy students over 120 pages of memories. Last day for ordering is June 8th.

Adventurous spirits and hearty leg muscles rule as Mr. Pineault’s grade 6/7 class enjoyed an afternoon of exercise and good fun riding to Otway with Mrs. Pillipow’s KRSS Outdoor Education class.

June 10th is the final Primary Report Card Writing Day—so all students from Kindergarten through grade 3 are at home.
