Principal/Vice-Principal’s Weekly Message to Teachers – November 22, 2010

November 22, 2010
Steve and I had several meetings last week with Property Maintenance, PAC Exec, and KRSS admin to air our concerns re: snow removal and lodge our priority list with the various “powers that be”. To that end, we hope to coordinate snow removal so that our two walkways from the parking lots, and the walkway from the Elksentre down past the blacktop, will be cleared earlier on those days when we receive a snowfall. FYI, the rest of the property, including parking lots,  is cleared in prioritised phases by an outside contractor, along with other SD properties in our zone.
Please continue to wear your “ice grippers”, as several of the sidewalks approaching the building are sloped. Also, please continue to wear the orange vests while on supervision to let our students and parents know we are “out there”.
Sliding on the hills in the back of the school will become more of an issue, now that we have snow. For now, please use your discretion to guide “safe sliding” while we identify and work on the hot spots.
Have a great week!

Website changes

The website is being updated, and moved to a different platform. There may be a few issues with things not working as they should, which will be fixed very soon.

If you’d like technical details, please email sarah@sbkc.me, and I’d be happy to go into details about the new hosted WordPress platform. 🙂

New website feature – Principal’s Weekly Message to Teachers

As a PAC, we are excited to publish on this website the weekly message from the Principal to the teachers. This information is not parent-specific – it is written for TEACHERS – but is interesting and informative for parents as well.

November 15, 2010

Winter has finally arrived, and with it comes the promise of new challenges on our school grounds. As always, please remind our students to wear appropriate outside clothing, and to do their best to stay off muddy areas. Dan will continue to work with Property Maintenance to try and solve the problem of the muddy pathway that runs from the blacktop, past the corner of the field, to the tether balls. Continue reading

Around the Schools

Around the Schools is regularly submitted to the Prince George Citizen, and generally published. We will be posting the entire submission on this website on a regular basis. Thank you to Nadine Trifunovich Allen and Dan Watt for writing it!

École Heather Park Elementary School had its first Leadership event of the year, with a “Jersey Day”. Students wore their favorite sports jersey to show some school spirit. Some classes had 95-98% participation! To top the afternoon off, we hosted a volleyball play day. Co-ed teams from Glenview and Hart Highlands came to participate in this non-competitive event.

Gr. 7 student, Olivia M is the winner of the recent mascot design at École Heather Park Elementary School. We are now the HEROES. We now have another school-wide contest to decide what virtues H.E.R.O.E.S. will stand for. Our thanks to all students and Tracy Christensen from the PAC for their hard work on this activity.

Bus Loop Times

Use of the bus loop is allowed for general traffic before 8am and after 3:15pm on school days.

Between 8am and 3:15pm, only school buses, emergency, school district, or vehicles with a Disabled Persons’ Parking Permit should be using the bus loop.

Thank you for your attention to this safety issue.
